Bedeutung einer Veterinäranästhesistin oder eines Veterinäranästhesisten und einer optimalen Schmerztherapie aus Sicht von Hunde- und Katzenbesitzerinnen und -besitzer

The importance of a veterinary anaesthetist and pain treatment according to dog and cat ownersIn Switzerland, compared to the United Kingdom or the United States of America, fewer veterinary anaesthetists are employed in private practice, which raises the question about the reason. The present survey aimed at investigating the awareness of pet owners concerning the specialization of veterinary anaesthesia and the value they attribute to such a specialist. Also, estimation of pain in dogs and cats and the importance of its treatment from the point of view of the pet owners was analysed. Furthermore, the necessity of veterinary anaesthetists in private practice and the influencing factors were investigated. The survey was created on LimeSurvey, an online tool for questionnaires and sent to dog and cat owners of the small animal clinic of the University Hospital of Zurich. 317 fully completed questionnaires were evaluated. In general, pet owners appreciated the specialization of veterinary anaesthesiology. Great importance was attributed to the supervision of anaesthesia and analgesic therapy by a specialist. A preliminary talk with an anaesthetist would be appreciated. Owners would be willing to cover additional costs for a specialized anaesthetist, if recommended by the private veterinarian, and to bring their animal to the University Hospital, in case of an increased anaesthetic risk.

Bedeutung einer Veterinäranästhesistin oder eines Veterinäranästhesisten und einer optimalen Schmerztherapie aus Sicht von Hunde- und Katzenbesitzerinnen und -besitzerIm Vergleich zum Vereinigten Königreich (UK) oder den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika (USA) sind in der Schweiz prozentual weniger Veterinäranästhesisten in Privatpraxen beschäftigt, was die Frage aufwirft, weshalb dies so ist. Anhand einer Umfrage wurde analysiert, inwiefern die Tierbesitzer gegenüber der Spezialisierung der Veterinäranästhesiologie aufgeklärt sind und welchen Stellenwert sie einer spezialisierten Person diesbezüglich zukommen lassen. Ebenfalls wurde die Wichtigkeit einer Schmerztherapie bei Hund oder Katze erfragt. Weiter wurde der Bedarf an Veterinäranästhesisten in der Privatpraxis geprüft, sowie welche Faktoren darauf Einfluss nehmen. Die Umfrage wurde mithilfe des Fragebogentools LimeSurvey durchgeführt und an Tierbesitzer von Hunden und Katzen der Kleintierklinik des Tierspital Zürich versandt. Ausgewertet wurden 317 ausgefüllte Fragebogen. Die Tierbesitzer schätzen die Spezialisierung der Veterinäranästhesiologie. Sie schätzen die Betreuung der Allgemeinanästhesie und Schmerztherapie durch einen Veterinäranästhesisten als sehr wichtig ein und wünschen sich auch ein Anästhesievorgespräch. Sie sind ebenfalls bereit, Mehrkosten für diesen Service zu bezahlen oder ihr Tier, wenn vom Privattierarzt empfohlen, bei erhöhtem Anästhesierisiko ans Tierspital Zürich zu bringen.

Importance de l’anesthésiste vétérinaire et du traitement analgésique du point de vue des propriétaires de chiens et de chatsEn Suisse, les vétérinaires anesthésistes sont moins nombreux à exercer en cabinet privé qu’au Royaume-Uni ou aux États-Unis. La question se pose dès lors de savoir pourquoi il en est ainsi. Une enquête a analysé les connaissances des propriétaires d’animaux de compagnie sur la spécialisation de l’anesthésiologie vétérinaire et l’importance qu’ils accordent à un spécialiste en la matière. L’importance de la thérapie analgésique chez les chiens ou les chats a également été évaluée. En outre, le besoin en vétérinaires anesthésistes en pratique privée et les facteurs qui l’influencent ont été examinés. L’enquête a utilisé l’outil de questionnaire LimeSurvey et a été envoyée aux propriétaires de chiens et de chats de la Clinique des petits animaux de l’Université de Zürich. 317 questionnaires complétés ont été évalués. Les propriétaires d’animaux apprécient la spécialisation enl’anesthésiologie vétérinaire. Le vétérinaire anesthésiste est considéré comme très important dans les mesures anesthésiques et la thérapie analgésique. Une consultation anesthésique préalable est souhaitée. Les propriétaires seraient disposés à prendre en charge les coûts supplémentaires de ce service ou, sur recommandation du vétérinaire privé, à amener leur animal à la Clinique pour petits animaux de l’Université de Zürich en cas de risque anesthésique accru.

L’importanza di un anestesista veterinario e della terapia antalgica dal punto di vista dei proprietari di cani e gattiIn Svizzera, il numero di anestesisti veterinari impiegati negli studi privati è inferiore rispetto al Regno Unito (UK) e agli Stati Uniti d’America (USA). Questa situazione solleva la questione del perché di questo. Un sondaggio ha analizzato in che misura i proprietari di animali domestici sono al corrente della specializzazione in anestesiologia veterinaria e l’importanza che attribuiscono a uno specialista in questo ambito. È stata anche valutata l›importanza della terapia analgesica nei cani e nei gatti. Inoltre, sono stati esaminati il fabbisogno di anestesisti veterinari nella pratica privata e quali elementi sono influenzanti. Il sondaggio ha utilizzato lo strumento del questionario LimeSurvey ed è stato inviato ai proprietari di cani e gatti della clinica per piccoli animali dell’Università di Zurigo. Sono stati valutati 317 questionari compilati. I risultati hanno indicato che i proprietari di animali apprezzano la specializzazione di anestesiologia veterinaria. L’anestesista veterinario è stato considerato molto importante nella gestione dell’anestetica e della terapia analgesica e i proprietari vorrebbero pure avere un consulto anestetico preliminare. I proprietari sarebbero disposti a coprire i costi aggiuntivi per questo servizio o, se raccomandato dal veterinario privato, a portare il proprio animale alla clinica per piccoli animali dell’Università di Zurigo se c’è un rischio anestetico maggiore.
