Small strongyles (cyathostomes) that are resistant against anthelmintics have become a major problem in equine medicine in the recent years. In many European countries benzimidazole-resistant cyathostomes are widespread and are now present in well over 50% of equine populations investigated. In contrast, resistance against ivermectin has not been reported despite its widespread use in the recent years. Optimising the frequency of treatments based on quantitative faecal monitoring is of great importance to preserve remaining anthelmintic efficacy.

Strongyliden beim Pferd. I. Resistenzentwicklung gegen Anthelminthika

Kleine Strongyliden (Cyathostomen) mit einer Resistenz gegen Anthelminthika haben sich in den letzten Jahren zu einem bedeutenden Problemfaktor in der Pferdemedizin entwickelt. Mit Häufigkeiten von teilweise deutlich mehr als 50% der untersuchten Bestände haben Strongyliden-Populationen mit einer Resistenz gegen Benzimidazole in den meisten untersuchten europäischen Ländern die derzeit weiteste Verbreitung erlangt. Demgegenüber hat sich die in den letzten Jahren weltweit deutlich zunehmende Anwendung des Ivermectins noch nicht in einer Resistenzbildung bei den kleinen Strongyliden niedergeschlagen. Im Hinblick auf eine verantwortungsvolle Nutzung der verbliebenen Ressourcen erscheint die Optimierung der Behandlungsfrequenz in den Beständen über ein kotprobenbasiertes Monitoring auf der Basis von Eizählungen von grosser Bedeutung.

Les petits strongylidés (cyathostomes) présentant une résistance aux anthelmintiques sont devenus ces dernières années un problème significatif en médecin équine. Des populations de strongylidés présentant une résistance au benzimidazole sont présentes avec une fréquence dépassant parfois nettement 50% dans la plupart des pays européens étudiés. Au contraire, l'usage de plus en plus important ces dernières années de l'Ivermectine n'a pas encore engendré l'apparition de résistance chez les petits strongylidés. Dans l'optique d'une utilisation raisonnable des ressources restant à disposition, une optimalisation de la fréquence des traitements basées sur le comptage des œufs dans les échantillons de crottins semble être d'une grande importance.

Negli ultimi anni i piccoli strongilidi (ciatostomi) resistenti agli antelmintici sono divenuti un chiaro problema nella medicina equina. Le popolazioni di strongilidi resistenti al benzimidazolo hanno raggiunto attualmente nella maggior parte dei Paesi europei esaminati una vasta propagazione con frequenze che talvolta superano chiaramente il 50% degli animali esaminati. D'altra parte negli ultimi anni il mondialmente incrementato utilizzo di Ivermectin non ha ancora provocato la formazione di resistenza nei piccoli strongilidi. In considerazione ad un utilizzo responsabile delle risorse restanti risulta importante ottimizzare la frequenza del trattamento nelle scuderie tramite un monitoraggio degli escrementi basato sul conteggio delle uova.
