The copper and zinc contents of 25 rations for adult horses were evaluated. The total amount of copper and zinc daily ingested was obtained by adding the amount of each element contained and added of the commercial feed to the amount contained in ingested hay and oats. The total amount of copper and zinc ingested daily was compared with the official recommendations for the maintenance of an adult horse of 550 kg. The results show that a traditional ration oats/hay does not contain a sufficient amount of copper and zinc in order to cover their respective requirements. Furthermore, many rations which include commercial feed also do not cover the requirements of these two elements. The importance of these observations is discussed in the light of the eventual need to complete the rations.

Der Gehalt an Kupfer und Zink in 25 Rationen erwachsener Pferde wurde untersucht. Die gesamte pro Tag aufgenommene Menge an Kupfer und Zink wurde durch Addition des im kommerziellen Futter vorhandenen Gehaltes mit den in Heu und Hafer geschätzten Gehalten ermittelt. Die tägliche aufgenommene Menge an Kupfer und Zink wurde mit den offiziellen Empfehlungen für die Erhaltung eines erwachsenen Pferdes mit einem Gewicht von 550 kg verglichen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass mit einer traditionellen Ration bestehend aus Heu und Hafer der Gehalt an Kupfer und Zink nicht ausreichend ist. Andererseits wird auch bei vielen Rationen, die ein kommerzielles Futter enthalten, der empfohlene Bedarf an diesen zwei Elementen nicht gedeckt. Die Bedeutung dieser Beobachtungen wird im Hinblick auf eine eventuell nötige Supplementierung der Ration diskutiert.

Le contenu en cuivre et en zinc de 25 rations de chevaux adultes a été évalué. La quantité totale de cuivre et de zinc ingérée par jour a été ob tenue en additionnant la quantité contenue et ajoutée de chaque élément dans l´aliment commercial aux quantités estimées contenues dans le foin et l´avoine. La quantité totale de cuivre et de zinc ingérée par jour a été comparée avec les recommandations officielles pour l´entretien d´un cheval adulte de 550 kg. Les résultats montrent qu´une ration traditionnelle avoine/foin ne contient pas une quantité suffisante de cuivre et de zinc pour couvrir les besoins recommandés. D´autre part, de nombreuses rations qui incluent un aliment commercial ne couvrent pas les besoins de ces deux éléments. L´importance de ces observations est discutée sous l´angle de l´éventuelle nécessité de compléter les rations.

Il contenuto di rame e zinco è stato esaminato in 25 razioni per cavalli adulti. La quantità giornaliera di rame e zinco assunta è stata determinata aggiungendo alla quantità contenuta nei mangimi in commercio il contenuto stimato nel fieno e nell´avena. La quantità giornaliera di rame e zinco assunta è stata confrontata con le raccomandazioni ufficiali per il mantenimento di un cavallo adulto di 550 kg. I risultati mostrano che in una razione tradizionale di fieno ed avena, il contenuto di rame e zinco non è sufficiente. D´altronde, anche in molte razioni contententi mangimi in commercio, il fabbisogno raccomandato di questi due elementi non viene coperto. L´importanza di questa osservazione viene discussa in considerazione di un´eventuale aggiunta supplementare nella razione.
